Been busy making memories...

My husband's mother and sister have been visiting us in Iwakuni for the past week, so I have been a little busy venturing out, showing them the local sights. You can check out our adventures on my blog, www.jessicaguthrie.com. I have managed to squeeze in a little creative time, though, and made this door sign, a mix of Japan and Marine Corps themes for a fellow base resident:

I'm also gearing up for Crafts & Cocktails, which is less than a week away... I hope to have the March 5th Crafts & Cocktails project kit, a collage mirror, on display at the class. I'll then post it here and on the Tenaciously Remembered Facebook page. I'm also working on a the kit schedule for the rest of the year... I've got a lot of ideas and not enough months!

Radio Interview and Baby Boy Albums

My third and final scrapbooking class of the week here on MCAS Iwakuni was hosted by the base library, as part of their "New Year, New Hobby" program and free for the first 11 participants who registered. The base radio station, Power 1575 (Armed Forces Network) was there and wanted a sound bite from me to run on the radio station the next day. So fun! I couldn't have timed it more perfectly and the segment came on while I was running errands. Here is the recording I managed to get from my car radio, along with photos provided by the AFN and library Facebook pages:

AFN Interview

I've also been pretty busy this week getting ready for my display at the Iwakuni Baby Expo on base Saturday, Jan. 26. As you may have seen in the earlier post, I have made some new baby girl albums, and of course, I did not want to leave the boys out. Here are my most recent baby boy albums:

I won't be able to actually conduct sales transactions at the Baby Expo. I am just there to let new parents know about these albums so they can hopefully spread the word to would-be gift givers, or purchase one themselves once baby is born. Of course, these can be personalized with baby's name for free with purchase. For additional details about these kits, click on the "Baby Boy" tab above.

Busy week!

This week is a busy one for me! First, January's Crafts & Cocktails is tomorrow (Tuesday, Jan, 15) for those of you who have purchased the kit and want to take advantage of the free class. You can email me if you have questions.

Second, the free class at the Iwakuni base library, New Year, New Hobby: Scrapbooking, is Thursday ( Jan, 17) evening and full! But, just in case there are cancellations, make sure you are on the waiting list! Contact the library to sign up.

And, finally, I am gearing up for the (Saturday) Jan. 26 Baby Expo that will be held in the Base Chapel buildings. I'm not able to sell anything, but I'll have some of my work on display and hand out business cards. It's "ladies first," so I have started on some baby girl albums. But, don't worry, the boys won't be left out! I'll post pics soon!

February Crafts & Cocktails kit revealed...

Special note: There are only 5 seats left for the Jan. 15 Crafts & Cocktails class, "Blossoms & Butterflies". For details, click here.

Need a unique, handmade and heartfelt gift for your special Valentine? This month's Crafts & Cocktails kit - an interactive 6 x 6-inch love-themed photo album -  is it! This chipboard album with acrylic cover features Tim Holtz and Theresa Collins stamps and Creative Imaginations transparencies. Plus, there are pockets throughout, holding tags for more photos and journaling, as well as a treat to pull the most powerful memories... through scent! Spray your perfume on a slip of heart-stamped paper and seal it in to the small Ziploc baggie so even when you're apart, your Valentine can keep your memory close.

If you would like assistance in putting the project kit together, the free Crafts & Cocktails class will be 7-10 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5 in Bldg. 655's (mid-rise closest to the front gate) community room. Bring your own snacks and cocktails, as well as all or some of the tools and supplies listed on the Kits, Classes & Events page, if you have them. Supplies will also be provided, but bringing your own means you won't have to share or wait.

Special Note: If you plan to give this project as a Valentine's Day gift, make sure you have your favorite photos printed ahead of time if using an online service. Also, there are photo printers in the city of Iwakuni, but prints are about 37 yen each.

Only 19 project kits are available. Those who have paid for their kits ahead of time are assured a seat in the class. For more information about this kit, click here. To register, email me at jessicaguthrie at hotmail dot com.

Baby Expo Jan. 26

Tenaciously Remembered will be at the MCAS Iwakuni Baby Expo from 9 a.m.-Noon, Saturday, Jan. 26 at Capodanno Hall, MCAS Iwakuni Chapel) displaying samples of baby photo albums that can be personalized for your little one. Sales are not allowed at the event, I can only show off my work and hand out information, but this is a wonderful opportunity to see unique, handmade baby and toddler albums in person. I am not planning this expo, just having a table, but you can call 253-5311 to register for this MCCS-hosted event.

Here are some of my past baby albums I have created with the themes and colors each set of parents selected:
